Long ago, the green woodlands around Rufford Park were the kind of place where stories about Robin Hood were born. Robin Hood was a legendary outlaw, famous for being brave, clever and kind, helping people who were treated unfairly and standing up to bullies. Although Robin did not live at Rufford Park, the tall trees, winding paths and quiet clearings are just like the forests he and his Merry Men would have known.
People imagined Robin passing through places like this, practising his archery, planning secret missions and hiding from danger among the trees. Rufford Park’s woodland and open spaces help bring those legends to life, making it easy to picture Robin racing between trunks or keeping watch from behind the leaves.
Today, Rufford Park is a fantastic place for families to spend the day, with something for everyone to enjoy. Children can have fun in the large play area or try their skills at adventure golf, while grown-ups relax and enjoy the beautiful grounds. There’s a large lake to wander around, perfect for spotting ducks and enjoying peaceful views, and even an exciting ice house to discover. When it’s time for a treat, families can visit the playground, cafés or ice cream parlour, and don’t forget to pop into the gift shop for a souvenir of your visit. The formal gardens and sculpture trail are also great for a gentle wander, making Rufford Park a place where adventure, nature and relaxation come together.
