Clumber Park was once home to the adventurous Pelham family, who loved exploring their huge estate, filled with acres of woodland, winding paths and an impressive serpentine lake. The Pelham children were curious, brave, and full of imagination, often running along the grand tree-lined avenues, spotting wildlife, or planning secret games in the forests and gardens. They invited friends to join their adventures, turning Clumber Park into a playground where stories and discoveries were waiting around every corner.
Today, the park is still full of natural wonders; a lake bustling with wildlife, ancient woodland, and wide-open fields perfect for exploring. Young visitors can imagine the Pelham children racing through the park, playing hide-and-seek amongst the trees, or spotting birds, deer, and other animals just like the Pelhams might have done. They might pretend to plan secret missions, build tiny forts from sticks, or keep a nature journal to record their discoveries. Every area of Clumber Park invites children to explore, imagine, and learn. Just as the Pelham family once wandered this great estate, children can follow in their footsteps, get curious and experience the joy and beauty of being outdoors.
Clumber Park offers something for every member of the family. Visitors can pause for food and refreshments in the many cafes, browse the Laundry Yard shop for gifts and souvenirs, or the second-hand bookshop for a great new read. Visit the Discovery Centre to learn more about the park’s wildlife and the Heritage Hub to find out more about Clumber House and the past Dukes and Duchesses that lived there. A wander around the Past Time Clumber Room highlights the park’s connections to the first and second World Wars, and the Conservation Hub gives an insight into the work that goes into protecting rare species and preserving the vital habitats of the park.
There are over 20 miles of trails through the woodland and open parkland which are perfect for walking and cycling, and families can visit the Chapel of St Mary the Virgin and the walled kitchen garden catching a glimpse of the park’s splendid past.
